Artificial intelligence on this platform
This page explains where eMedicine uses artificial intelligence and where it does not. We write it plainly, because that matters more than a good-sounding phrase.
At present the platform does not use artificial intelligence or machine learning for medical guidance, diagnosis, or decisions about your treatment. No algorithm assesses your health.
The urgent-help warning that sometimes appears in search runs on a fixed list of words. If the text contains, for example, chest pain, we show a prompt to call 113. It is a simple safety rule, not artificial intelligence, and it does not replace a doctor.
Search by symptom or by area of medicine matches your text against words stored in a database. It is rule-based, not artificial intelligence, and it only helps you choose which kind of specialist to book.
We plan to add an e-receptionist voice assistant that answers calls and helps with booking. It is not live yet. When it goes live it will use conversational artificial intelligence, and every caller will be told at once and in plain words that they are speaking with an artificial intelligence and not a person. The EU AI Act requires this of systems that interact with people, and we would do it in any case.
If anything on this page does not match what you see on the platform, write to atbalsts@emd.lv and we will correct it.
eMedicine is a software platform. Doctors are independent specialists certified by the state, and the medical service is sold and given by the doctor. We are not a medical institution.
